Silk regulates temperature better than any other fabric, and wicks away moisture, never getting humid or soggy like down. It is half the weight of down for the same level of warmth, and silk drapes in a superior manner, eliminating cold spots.

Silk is by far the most comfortable natural material next to the skin. This smooth, supple, breathable fabric will keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It's high tensile strength makes it extremely durable. Silk is naturally hypoallergenic, and is resistant to dust mites and mold. It contains natural cellular albumen fiber, a component that contributes to skin health by speeding metabolism of skin cells (decreasing aging of skin) and, coupled with the silk amino acid and permeability properties, contributes to the relief of joint pain, asthma, arteriosclerosis, neurodermatitis, and insomnia. Organic silk is also an environmentally sustainable product.

Avoid detergents, which often contain enzymes and brighteners which can attack silk and dyes. Instead, use a product designed especially for silk (gentle and non-toxic), or in a pinch, use woolite or shampoo — although the moisturizing components can dampen the silken sheen. The best method is to dissolve the detergents in a water bath, into which the textiles are then placed.

Washing Machine:
Silk can safely be cleaned in the delicate/woolen cycle of your washing machine (lukewarm water temp. 86°F/30°C). Always separate your colors and use a very short spin cycle.

Vinegar Rinse:
A capful of white vinegar will protect your silk and its color. A brittle texture and a matt finish are indicators of alkali damage, which can be minimized through rinsing with the vinegar solution.

Drying:
Wet silk may yellow on a radiator or in direct sunlight. In the clothes dryer, your silk will suffer from the friction and the extreme lack of humidity. Avoid both of these methods. Spun silk is best hung to dry. Avoid direct sunlight.
